Cox eyeing Middle Park for flying Reckless Abandon

8/31/12 - Clive Cox is having a tremendous time of things at the moment with his horses running out of their skins. Many from within the horse racing betting community believe that nobody has done more to keep the stable fortunes on the ‘up’ this term than the juvenile Reckless Abandon who put up yet another impressive display in landing the Group 1 Darley Prix Morny at Deauville and looks set to bid for more top grade glory later on this campaign.

Reckless Abandon extended his unbeaten record to four with a powerful performance in defeating the Aidan O’Brien-trained George Vancouver by three-quarters-of-a-length in the feature French contest, justifying favouritism in the best possible fashion in making just about all the running and showing tremendous pace to see off quality opposition and elevate himself to leading status amongst those two-year-old’s seen out at the trip this season.

A delighted Cox has nominated the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket in October as the next likely target for the son of Exchange Rate who cost connections just 24,000 guineas and who began his winning streak with a debut success at Doncaster in May, creating a good impression with a two-length defeat of Annunciation. Stepped straight up into Group 2 company, Reckless Abandon then hit the headlines by defeating Irish raider Gale Force Ten to land the five furlong Norfolk Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, then went on to follow up over six furlongs landing the Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at Maisons Lafitte the following month.

Although his pedigree suggests he is all about speed and is unlikely to stay the 2000 Guineas trip of a mile next term, Cox’s flyer is now a top-priced 25/1 in the ante-post market for the first classic of the 2013 season despite many Bet Victor horse racing news sources believing he is the epitome of the archetypal early maturing two-year-old.
